Home care providers in Australian Capital Territory

Last updated 20 August 2026

The ACT is a compact, almost entirely metropolitan market - 4,325 people were receiving Support at Home at 31 March 2026. Most providers service Canberra as part of a combined NSW-ACT footprint, and cross-border servicing with Queanbeyan is routine.

Home care in the ACT: the 2026 picture

Canberra’s market mixes genuinely local providers - Goodwin is the Canberra-based name - with organisations that service the territory from a combined NSW and ACT footprint, such as BaptistCare and Uniting. That means choice is real but narrower than in Sydney or Melbourne, and it’s worth asking any provider whether their Canberra team is locally based or run from interstate.

The compact geography works in your favour: travel charges are much less of an issue than elsewhere, and the thin-market problems of regional Australia largely don’t apply. Waiting times, though, are no shorter for it - the government’s first wait-times report (covering November 2025 to March 2026) put the ACT median at around 300 days from application to services starting, roughly the national median of 294. For free, independent support, ADACAS is the ACT member of the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN, 1800 700 600).

Cross-border servicing is routine here - several providers on our Canberra page cover Queanbeyan and the nearby NSW surrounds as part of the same operation. If you’re further out in the region, tell us your town and we’ll check which registered providers genuinely cover it, free.

Common questions

I live in Queanbeyan - can I use Canberra providers?

Usually, yes. Queanbeyan sits in NSW, but most Canberra providers treat it as part of their normal service area, and Support at Home funding works the same on both sides of the border. Confirm coverage of your exact suburb with the provider, or ask us to check for you.

How long will I wait for Support at Home in the ACT?

The first government wait-times report put the ACT median at around 300 days from application to services starting - roughly the national median, despite the compact geography. Your priority category makes a big difference; our guides on the waitlist and what you can do while you wait explain more.

Are these all the home care providers in the ACT?

No. We list providers we’ve verified as registered for Support at Home and genuinely servicing Canberra - our directory grows as we confirm more. The full national register is always searchable through My Aged Care (myagedcare.gov.au or 1800 200 422).
